The aim of this task was to photograph different kitchen utensils ideally in a sink , and to photograph them from different angles , getting all kinds of shots.
Jan Groover's work was inspired and focused on everyday objects in the kitchen arranged in the sink such as spatulas and cutlery, and then photographing them from different angles to catch reflecting light of the metal objects and controlling every detail of the picture to create this dramatic still life photograph. |

WWW: I think I positioned well all of my objects in a way that each object fits in well and there is a interesting variety of colours and patterns that I included. I think I edited my picture well with the right amount of saturation to highlight especially the pinkness of the notebook at the bottom and the other colours too. EBI: I could of took my pictures in a place where I would get less shadows, so probably in a brighter place. |
Uta Barth creates simple but adds/encourages multiple meanings to her photographs, she mainly takes photographs of light and shadows in her house or outside. She also takes pictures of simple objects such as trees or objects to find in a house.
To capture the light and shadow pictures, Barth chooses specific objects/rooms that the sunlight is shining on and focuses on the movement and pattern that the sun gives on the object. She wants us to consider our own perception of her photographs and be more aware of our own opinion and understanding. Uta Barth says that she wants the viewers to "walk out of the gallery seeing differently”. |
Weston used a Graflex camera. The benefit of using this type of camera was that to was portable and you could the the photo you were taking before taking shot of it. Weston had a clear vision/understanding of what he wanted his photo to look like and he also was very precise about how he framed his photos and composition. Some issues that Weston encountered when photographing the pepper was that the depth of field got smaller and smaller when he got closer to the pepper. He also had the problem that with his house that he had, whenever and truck or car passed by, his house would shake a bit causing the pepper to move and get out a bit of focus.Weston had a exposure of for 4-6 hours and used natural light. The long exposure affected the pepper by getting different and a variety of shadows from the sun moving around over the time period of 4-6 hours, creating a some sort of effect of glow to the pepper.
